NFL, NFLPA announce interim health care district

Updated May 24, 2018 8:20am PDT Cleveland, Ohio — The National Football League, the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League announced today that they will each establish an interim health-care district in the state of Ohio in the coming weeks.

This interim district will provide health care for up to 25,000 people and will be based on existing state law and existing city and county health plan policies.

The state and local government entities that serve the people of Ohio will continue to operate under the existing health plan for individuals and families.

The new district will be located in Cleveland and will provide coverage for up-to-date and qualified health care professionals, emergency medical services, outpatient care, hospitalization, prescriptions and outpatient visits.

The interim health district will not be subject to the strict health care requirements imposed by the state and the City and County of Cleveland.

The state and county governments are expected to implement the new district in early 2018.
